Project Management Process

The Difference:

Project Management is the best way for organizations to accomplish major work. Project Management is a basic enabling skill required for success. Many organizations do have their projects come in on time, within budget but at what cost to: client relationships, staff stress levels, competitive positioning, resource deployment and attainment of “strategic” objectives.

Project Management Process focuses on the tools and structure necessary to meet project success criteria. An understandable four-step process for achieving success in light of increased competition for dollars, people and other resources is detailed. Participants leave with specific tools for implementing the process immediately.

Course Description:

Project Management Process is a two-day course designed to provide individuals with an understanding of project management tools, their applicability and benefits. Participants will have an opportunity to apply the course concepts in a series of carefully designed exercises and a full project simulation.

Course Objectives:

  • Effectively define and analyze the project opportunity.
  • Build a defensible project plan, which includes scheduling and budgeting components.
  • Implement a plan, which flexibly maximizes the use of resources with minor conflict.
  • Identify measurement tools necessary for project monitoring and control.
  • Understand how to close down the project and use the project history for the future.

Course Content:

There are four phases of the Project Management Process: Define; Plan; Implement; and Close. Within these phases the course focuses on:

  • Project definition/Project selection criteria
  • Critical Success Factors (CSF's)/Risk Analysis
  • Role of the project manager and role of the project team members
  • Project Management tools: Project Scope, Work BreakDown Structure; Activity Analysis, RAM, Duration, Network Diagramming, Critical Path, Gantt Charts, Risk Analysis and Contingency Planning
  • Implementation Assessment
  • Estimating time and costs/calculating variances
  • Handling change and managing conflict
  • Project review and capturing lessons learned
  • Application

Course Design:

Project Management Process provides project team members and project managers with an opportunity to identify key project management issues. Working in teams, participants will have an opportunity to assess and increase their knowledge and skill level while working on two project simulations, using the tools of the four phased process. Methods include feedback, group discussions, lecture and tailored skill exercises.
